SPECIAL FILM AND MEDIA SHOWCASE AND AWARDS NIGHT

I created my own awards night at a local cinema with the help of my peers

After the Kent BFI Film Academy showcase last year, I decided to lead and create a local showcase for my A Level Media Class. This included an Awards ceremony and showing our films to an audience of around 200 at a local cinema. Using my experience with the academy, I was able to overcome challenges (such as the pandemic) to make this a reality. As my school is relatively small, we don't do events like this often, or ever. Therefore, this showcase was purely student-led and included months of fundraising (such as my friend and I planning a school Valentine's Party by ourselves!) and pitching to school leaders, including the headteacher, governors and more. Even though we are a small class, we were determined to present and celebrate our work before we leave the school.

I am incredibly proud of my class and grateful to my teachers for supporting this idea. The night was full of laughs, awards and a sense of achievement.

I won two awards, best short film/film-maker for my vampire-teen film 'Bloodsucker' and a special community service award for helping to organise the night. But, I gained a lot more than just the awards. I developed organisational, team-working and fundraising skills and, in the end, helped to create an unforgettable night for a large audience, which was a beautiful way to finish our course after two difficult years.
